One On One With Kenyan Singer Mist’rii Who Is The First Artist To Feature Rick Ross On New Catchy Song Amiliona
By Presta, 31 July 2023
To Those That Don’t Know You Kindly Introduce Yourself (Brief Bio):
Mist’riii is an Afrobeats Kenyan artist who started her musical career off as a songwriter/ghostwriter writing for other artists under the pen name ‘Suzy Hits.’
You Have A Unique Name. Kindly Tell Us About That:
I have always been a pretty low-key person, even on social media, and that has regularly gotten me comments about how ‘mysterious’ I am, so I decided to flip that into my artist name and instead of spelling it as ‘Mystery,’ I gave it some artistic flair, hence the moniker “Mist’riii.”
I would like to establish myself as an international Afrobeats/Afropop artist in the same vein as the likes of Burna Boy, Wizkid, Dvido, Rema, Ayra Starr, Tems, Libianca, etc- selling out arenas and stadiums, winning international awards, and generally being culturally impactful. It’s a big and daunting dream but I don’t believe that anything is impossible.

How Did You Start Your Art & How Has Been Your Music Journey Been So Far?
I started off as a songwriter in around 2017, then I started a record label which I ran for a while called Essen Music.
That didn’t go as expected, so I decided to refocus my energies into ghostwriting which I have been quietly doing for the past few years until 2022 when I decided to become a fully fledged artist myself.
The journey has been challenging, especially dealing with unprofessional and fraudulent Kenyan producers many of whom fail to deliver projects despite receiving payment for the work.
Number of Projects That Are Currently Out?
I have 2 projects out currently- one is called ‘Sometimes’ and the latest featuring Rick Ross is called ‘Amiliona.’
I released Sometimes last year though I did not market it because it lacks commercial appeal, so Amiliona is what I consider to be my first official release as an artist.
You’re The Second Artist From East Africa To Work with Rick Ross. How was the Experience?
The experience has been humbling and an honour for me to achieve such a feat. I’m grateful.
What do you aim to achieve in the long term now that your music is now global
